Berkshire Elementary School is the largest elementary school in the District, with 148,000 SF of educational spaces. While the size of the program is large, the site, at 9 acres, is small. The challenge was to design a structure that met the space needs of the 1048-student population, while providing a safe and intimate setting for the individual children, many of whom are hearing-impaired or deaf.
