After considering a major addition and renovation to their existing library The College of New Jersey decided instead to build a new 139,000-sf library. Cubellis was retained to design the new building and prepare Design Development documents for the College’s use in soliciting design/ build proposals. The new facility was designed to house all traditional library functions as well as many after-hour functions, including a cafe, a 100-seat auditorium, a large late-study reading lounge, and multiple computer labs. The new building offers ubiquitous access to electronic information while providing appropriate environment for the preservation of 750,000 volumes of print and non-print collections, manuscripts and artifacts.
