The Martha Washington Apartments project is a City of Chicago Department of Housing funded independent-living facility for seniors in Chicago.
This complex is located in the North Center neighborhood at the intersection of Western Avenue and Irving Park Road. The 5-story building contains 104 dwelling units, all of them adaptable for wheelchair accessibility. The ground floor includes a community room, an exercise room, a game room and a wellness center. The project is located on a 1.66 acre parcel which is a part of a Planned Unit Development for a 7.7-acre city block that includes other residential buildings. In keeping with the PUD requirements, the entire site will be landscaped according to a unified Master Plan. The exterior of the building is clad in face brick and includes balconies in keeping with the architectural character of the neighborhood.
