SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
Sustainability can be broadly defined as a balance between human needs and productivity of natural systems. Sustainable design moves away from disposable and destructive systems that are energy and resource intensive and moves closer towards systems that are more restorative. Sustainable design principles help to promote regeneration of the natural environment, minimizing impact on it’s resources while affording sound economical development.
As a member of the US Green Building Council and with LEED TM Accredited Professionals at the Principal and staff levels, Cubellis is committed to this ethic. Our staff is well versed on the sustainable issues that will inform the design process. This team is further supported by an in-house “Green Team” that performs the research needed to maintain a current and accurate data base. Cubellis offers LEED/sustainable design consulting as a stand-alone service as well to clients and project teams alike. We are currently engaged in LEED consulting for a number of clients.
Only through an integrated approach that involves the client, its representatives and consultants, and the entire design professional team, can a project be sustainable and cost effective. The ability of this concept to survive the scrutiny of traditional “first cost” mentality, lies squarely on the shoulders of well informed, accredited professionals. If preliminary budgets are not analyzed with long term vision, even the most economical solutions will never pay off.
