Cubellis was founded in 1986. Located in Boston, the firm was a 20-person architecture firm specializing in retail and industrial work. After acquiring the architecture and engineering firm of Bradford Saivetz Associates in Massachusetts in 2000, Cubellis expanded into the mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. The firm’s Chicago office more than tripled in size when it merged with architecture firm Mann Gin Dubin and Frazier in 2005. Additional growth included mergers with Virginia-based Design Concepts Architects in 2005, and New Jersey design firm Ecoplan, also in 2005. In 2006, Cubellis expanded its Philadelphia office through its merger with GBQC Architects, followed by Florida design firm Synalovski Guitierrez Romanik Architects, Inc. (SGR).
In 2007, Cubellis formed a partnership with Rome, Italy based Studio Costa & Partners to create Cubellis Costa International (CCI), a new firm with its first location in Dubai, U.A.E. CCI is a fully-qualified Lead Consultant, with award-winning international design credentials. The firm delivers the added value of on-the-ground local execution capabilities with all administrative agencies, plus complete, in-house structural and MEP engineering disciplines. Working as partners with a select group of clients in the region, CCI creates highest-quality projects based on long-term relationships.
Also in 2007, Cubellis continued to grow through mergers with Naples, FL based architecture firm JLT Architecture & Consulting LLC, Glen Rock, NJ based architecture firm Seyffer & Koch Architectural Group and Rocky Hill, CT based retail design firm Vinick and Associates. In early 2008, the firm established a West Coast presence with an office in Orange County, California, and strengthened its mid-Atlantic presence with an office in Baltimore, Maryland.
In 2008, Cubellis continued to build its Hospitality and Retail/Mixed-Use practices, respectively, through the opening of a new office in Dallas, TX and the merger with Atlanta-based Dougherty + Design Group. The firm also continued to grow and strengthen the Workplace Solutions practice via its merger with New York City-based A/R Environetics Group.
